Most Common Change Methods Don’t Work
Article | Accountability Insights
When it comes to changing culture, most of the commonly used methods don’t produce the desired results. Why? Because they fail to alter the prevailing beliefs held by people working in the organization. In reality, most people dismiss common change methods as events or efforts that fit into the normal pattern of things. So, they give them little serious, thoughtful, or heartfelt attention. What are these “most common change methods?” Here are a few examples you’ll probably recognize:
1. | Putting Vision and Values statements on the wall
2. | Writing articles for the company newsletter
3. | Posting notices and updates on the company website
4. | Making frequent announcements from the management team. |
As a general rule, people don’t take such experiences to heart, and if they can’t take them to heart, those experiences will never have the power or influence to change their beliefs. Of course, the above experiences may have some influence on promoting change, but you should keep a watchful eye out for needless investment of time or resources in such change methods. Instead, put more of your time and resources into creating new experiences that have the power and influence to change peoples’ beliefs.
